What is your relationship to your life story?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for November 17, 2007:
I'm not sure if it's a story, really - maybe stream of consciousness or some crazy poem that definitely doesn't scan or rhyme. It might be more of a waking dream. Some days it's comedy improv. And I find that the other characters - could it be true? - take on a life of their own.
Sometimes I just feel that I'm watching the whole thing unfold, sometimes I'm struggling with where I want it to go next and trying to make sure I get every word just right, and then I give myself life-writer's block and have to take a nap.
Unfortunately, the edit function seems to be broken, so the bits where I wasn't really doing my best work are all left in there and I have to constantly work around them. Sometimes it turns out that a part of the story-or-whatever-it-is that didn't seem to be so good later gets woven in in a way that works brilliantly. But there are a lot of odd bits that haven't turned out to be a part of any coherent whole yet.
At times I suspect it might be some kind of shaggy dog story and will all be wrapped up with "you mean wet birds don't fly at night?" or some such thing.
Today I'm writing a story-poem-dream about getting to hang out with my wonderful son for a few days, about making yummy food and playing and laughing and having days off with Krissy, seeing some of our friends, enjoying the animals we live with - it's a nice little poem I have going right now. I think I'll go add some more to it - I can't wait to see what happens next.

I always need a nap when I get life-writer’s block!!
I like story-poem-dreams a lot too.
I hope you’ll share what happens next. I’m waiting to see too.

Naps are just the thing to “beat the block.”
;–)
I look forward to the story about the wet birds that don’t fly at night and maybe the oddities that we edit out are trajectories for our own unique voice?
I really enjoy your sense of humor in your writing and I hope that doesn’t hit the editing floor.
So that's where those wet birds came from that flew over my camp and dripped all over me and my class - your shaggy dog story!!!
And oh yeah, they do fly at night. Tons of them. Don't let anyone tell ya otherwise…..
