Well, I believe she has two eggs now, but it's hard to tell. She won't move away from the nest and I don't want to unsettle her with my nosiness. Also, there seem to be two birds taking turns, a day shift and a night shift bird...day shift looks like dad, more spots and color. Mom is here from afternoon on. How cooperative of them!

What fun! I know that the birds that have called my little porch their own are the highlight and sustainer of my day. The hummingbirds gather in the morning looking like fluffed up ping-pong balls with beaks waiting for their feeder to be put back out after being inside all night and out of the reach of my wayward bears. The finches, chickadees, wrens and sparrows make up the rest of the neighborhood, but I have never had one nest right on the porch. I believe it's the Japanese who believe that it's very good luck to have a bird nest so close to home.
I think it's good fortune too!
Wonderful!
We had a little nest on our alarm box at work 2 years ago. We watched mummy leave to get food and the little open mouths awaiting, heads up so sweet. I was sad to see them leave. Such wonderful creatures and a joy to behold.
:)
Thanks.
I'm a porch monkey myself!
Thank you for sharing your bird family with us! My mother has a fake tree plant on her balcony in NYC. Every year a bird comes and makes a nest in it. The balcony is so small she can't use it in the spring months for fear of disturbing the small family.
what a great pic! i just replaced my ancient hummingbird feeder and am covered up with hummies and with other birds coming to my other feeders.
it's time for a new pic!
