November postcard kiosk

I'm just starting this month's cards, so this post is just a placeholder for anyone who needs/wants to talk with others involved. Everyone else, feel free to ignore this.

This month is obviously defined by thanksgiving, or alternatively, Mexican Revolution Day on the 20th, or perhaps something else. Adrian and Chandini are coming for thanksgiving which is so very good. I decided that this month I would make extra cards and send them to people who aren't exchanging them - I'll take photos of at least one and post here too.

Talk at will. I gotta get this going so we can actually use the dining room table for eating...

tammy, rose, and lil – i have not forgotten you for the october cards, but I'm so, so, so slow and a.d.d.  I have yours all ready to mail now, but the post office isn't open when I'm awake, so I have to wait a little longer to get them into the mail because I actually have to go to the desk to send them.

I promise!! not to be late on the november cards and I'm going to make extras for that too.  oh– for me november is always a gratitude month.  it's gratitude that makes me happiest in life sometimes, most of the time.

I'm so thankful for this project and for all of you and for— OH! so much!!

I'm listening to this over and over and over while doing chores and smiling and crying.  it makes me want to be my absolute best in every way.  it makes me work harder and more joyfully.

love to you all!!  I AM high as a kite right now because of so much but probably mostly this…

I've just returned from a wonderful Bikram yoga classes in which I silently chanted “om mani padme hum” in my head on each inhale and each exhale.  and on each inhale I tried to thank the universe (one song) for all I have been given and all I have experienced and on each exhale I said to my self, I surrender, I turn all I have experienced and all I have breathed in, into something beautiful and loving to exhale back in to the universe.  and I smiled and smiled at myself in the mirror and it was a smile for all humanity.  I love it when everyone smiles!!

and this song.  and this one too!  and the last week.  and this whole month of making those card/boxes which was incredibly cathartic for me.  and how wonderful you all and my friends and family and husband and dogs and cat are!!

woooo, running around (like emma) brainstorming & waiting for a revolution to go zing ding ding in my head; I do have a lot to be grateful for & I'm still in awe over the generosity you all showed me last mth. It meant a whole lot getting yr greetings & well wishes as I laid about bored out of my skull;  many a big smile on my face & warm fluff in my heart, I thank you all so much for that. We don't do Thanksgiving over here, but have a tradition in nov called Morten's Eve which involves a duck dinner; Complicated story, stems from a Saint called Martin who once choked a goose. I'm not really going anywhere with this cuz I can't recall the details but if you get cards with ducks you know why. Or I might go wild as all I hear in my head is this song cuz dawn said she is high as a kite : )

I'm running late this month and terribly sorry and ironing my hands in penance.  So sorry. Ironing. You'll get cards somewhat after I figure out thanksgiving dinner…

Hey! Just got a postcard with a photo of a cafe and a gratitude hymn on the back but no name. Seems suspiciously Dawn-ian to me but I'd love to know for sure. Anyone willing to fess up?

suspiciously Dawn-ian.  ha!  you got me.  I sent one to my husband as well, who is far from me, visiting his family and he found it while he was on the phone with me and said, “did you send me a postcard?!” all shocked and suspicious-like.  :-)

my husband was amazing –he asked, “is that the cafe in denver where we went that time?”  AND he found a typo.  did you find the typo yet??

thanks lil.  it's easy to wear gratitude with so many wonderful lovelies like you in the world.  :-)  I'd like to go even further and begin to wrap myself entirely in gratitude.  it really is soft and warm.  :-)

I apologize for how late I will be this month but the only workspace I have is a dining room table which is shouldering the weight of thanksgiving feasting and I've been taken up by the preparing so I am very very sorry and will be very very late. But I'm getting there.
I love love love this bit of play with words and images and gratitude. Highly recommend the 42 day thingie, it's just fun.  Oh, and click on the flash movie which is what I actually intended to link to but I'm in the middle of making mushroom walnut tarts and got confused. Sorry.

Two people are still waiting for their october surprise from me – lil and tammy, but I got all my november cards out on time – a miracle.

I think we shouldn't let this postcard business become an added stress, but only an addition to our lives and though it's fair to keep each other posted (ha - pun not intended, but enjoyed. :-)) on the status of projects we have to give ourselves and each other a break when it comes to this wonderful postcard art game.  if it's not fun and / or if it becomes a burden, we'll stop playing and I want to keep playing.  to me…. it's more fun to get mail when it's unexpected and better late than never too.

happy heavy table everyone!!  I'll be working at 911 while adam visits his parents.  I'll go for a walk while the world eats.  but I've also been invited several places and I might go thanksgiving caroling - something I think I just made up – and sing to each person who was kind enough to invite poor solitary me to their gathering.  (I'm not truly feeling sorry for myself– this is a new adventure in holiday behavior.)

Thank you for the absolution and the reminder that you can't really ever be late for fun.
I think I might go thanksgiving caroling too now - but oh, the songs we'll sing, oh dear…

I third SFL's sentiments on fun and not stress – we must fight the crusade in this crazy, busy, Blackberry world to keep somethings sacred and FUN is top o' the list!

thanksgiving carols? “Oh Sarah Palin, won't you pardon me. I'm just an innocent Tom Turkey!”

We didn't carol although several of us burst into song here and there.  But it was a great gathering of people who enjoy each other and we had very nonconventional food for the day and today I'm buying nothing and making postcards.  Happy happy joy joy.

Well I was early and late at the same time! Early to make them cuz I started them 11/8 but my camera was broken when I went to photograph them so I delayed. Anyway I'm catching up now addressing envelops to place the postcard sized paintings in and I'll have them out this week.

TY Dawn! I was wondering about that postcard I received on Saturday! I kept looking at it waiting for it to reveal the secret so now I know!

DiamondLil TY! I'm loving that hopeful message that arrived safely at my spot at the table. Both yours and Peri's arrived yesterday.

Yes yes yes Dawn and Peri and Lil, thank you all so much for these lovely cards!  I'm finally working on mine, having enjoyed using our table to actually eat at over this past weekend. Maybe I'll do my December ones at the same time so I can also be both late and early!

Alright, 11pm on December 4 and I've finished my November postcards and am off to iron my hands after which I'm starting right in on December so as not to be quite so off with my timing this next time around, although I think Lil is absolutely right and lovely fun things are always on time.  I adore all of you and your lovely cards and huge hearts. Thank you.

stop it!!  stop ironing your hands.  you are making me think of the scary mom from that neil gaiman book you sent me.  no hand ironing– please!!!

I wonder if rose ever got a box thing from me.  I hope so.

I haven’t heard a thing from Rosie-Posie for quite a bit now.
The hand ironing is a Harry Potter reference, from the second book with Dobby the house elf who has to iron his hands when he does something wrong. He’s the reason I have a dog named Dobby, because this dog looks constantly apologetic and guilty and is constantly doing something to cause that.
Plus he looks exactly like the house elf in the movie.

I love a woman whose catch phrases come from HP! And thanks for the gorgeous Rorschach postcard with head-dressed bushman stamp – at least to my dazzled eyes. The stamp has a wonderful Nick Bantock influence in an entirely Tink body and soul.

And Peri, I love my fairy singing, Mary Oliver praying card! Is that Sanskrit on the front? It set me dreaming : )

Lil, you are so funny - Krissy immediately went with the Rorschach thing too and while I was making them just very matter-of-factly went through and identified all of them “This one’s a frog wearing a hat, this ones a jester, this one…” with no hesitations at all. She would be a psychologist’s dream.

I think I could paint for years using only browns. I’ve tried for years to love computer generated work but I’m too attached to layers with dimension and the way light comes through and reflects back. And I’m definitely a Nick Bantock fan - have read the Artful Dodger?  It’s very wonderful.
