Adrian's getting hitched!

This is my kiddo. He's tall. And funny and super duper smart. And one of the nicest people ever. I know I'm biased, but it's true.
He had a long term relationship with an also smart and funny woman, but it was one of those not-quite situations where they totally loved each other and yet...
I'm so grateful that she and I are still friends, and she's the one who turned him on to this online dating thingie, okcupid, where he met this woman:
and now they're going to get married, something I really didn't think he would ever do, being as skittish about institutions as I am (maybe a genetic trait?), but I think that's a measure of how truly smitten he is. (Although I have to say, if Krissy and I could get married, we totally would.)
One of my most favorite things he's ever said is "You'll love her. She's smart and funny, like us." What more could a parent want than that statement?
I haven't met her yet in person, although we had the world's most awkward phone conversation when Adrian handed her his cell and said, umm, talk, it's my mom....yeah, that was smooth. Her name is Chandini, how cool is that? Why didn't my parents give me a totally cool name like that? Geez.
They're coming up maybe next weekend, then it's Adrian's birthday, then she leaves for six weeks in Europe and comes back and then in a couple of days they have tickets for Eddie Izzard, for which I am incredibly jealous. That's okay though, I've got The Riches recorded on DVR, so take that! Yeah, okay, sounds a little pathetic even to me.
The actual deed of the wedding is planned for next summer. It's what Adrian describes as "an atheist wedding" - going to the courthouse and then having a gigantic party. It'll be the first time I've seen his dad in more than ten years - well, if dad shows up for the festivities. Wow. Adrian's getting married. Cool beans.

Congratulations,at this point fireworks go off,and a band is playing something by John Phillip Souza,or even Glenn Miller,and sparklers,and banners and oh the wonder and joy of love.
Then Eddie Izzard makes a speech (yay i like him too),and everyone laughs.
…and love oh love what a journey,and I'd wax poetic but I'm smiling and basking in the idea of love,and destiny,and how this world is so amazing…and your son,funny and smart like you.
OMG! This is so friggin' amazing - I am totally floored! Not that I thought Adrian would never get married, but…well…I never pictured him as hitched. Is that the same thing? I love love being surprised. I gotta IM him! And his mate, Chandini, wooohooo! He done good…well, from the ole visual guy thing from my seat. Can't wait to meet her.
And hey, if you and Krissy wanna get married I'll officiate the service. Who needs institutions? I promise to come up with a super-great brand-new tradition, complete with confetti, candle wax, altered states, and frisky fusion.

Soooo coool! And they're so attractive. Chandini is 'Silver' in Hindi, and she does have that sparkle. Yes, congratulations, Mama.
Albert - can you come to India with Krissy and Jeannie and officiate? I have practice now to set this up now. I know I'm good at it!
I gotta see Adrian again and meet Chandini. I'm on the schedule to work but I think I can get out of it. Ooo, I wanna.
Preveer - Silver indeed. Wonderful to know that. And I'll be on the first flight…;-)
maybe jeannie can get some medical care for her knee in India?? just before getting hitched with a science teacher guy officiating? I want an invitation. :-)
Make that ”weird science teacher guy” and I'll engrave the invitation.
Congrats mom! What wonderful news. And by the way, you and Krissy always have a crash pad if you want to visit the state where you could, in fact, make it legal : ) Bring Albert and Praveer and Dawn – what do you think of a double wedding with Adrian and Chandini up in the Bay state??? – and we'll have a big Gaia pahtay out under a Cambridge moon … .
maybe they should put that on the invitations…
please join us for vows of love, happily ever after, madcap life and singing under the cambridge moon. weird science guy, albert, will be officiating. medical saving fund donations will be accepted in leiu of the traditional wedding gifts………..
I'd show up and make a donation, or maybe make a donation in lieu of buying a plane ticket….. :-)

I think Adrian and Chandini have to have their own day, but Lil, maybe Krissy and I will take a trip to Boston…
And omg, wedding gifts - these are two adults living in their own places with so much stuff they can't both move into either person's current habitat…so, like, a lifetime supply of biodegradable trash bags? Haven't even thought about that bit yet. I'm sure I'll be inspired in a minute or two…
adam & I had a potluck / bring your own beverage reception in a friend's yard. the ceremony was presided over in my same friends wrought iron gazebo in her yard, by a retired presbyterian minister who is now a shaman and comparative religions teacher and a very, very dear old friend. we paid him for his services, at his request, with a very, very good bottle of scotch. we asked our attendees to bring only the gifts of their love, support and company. two of my friends who are not very good at following directions brought gifts anyway because they could not overcome their percieved social stigma of arriving at a wedding and reception without material gifts. I've used each of those gifts exactly twice in the 1 1/2 years since we got married. I've dusted them them each about 10 times. I love those friends both dearly and try not to hold it against them when I have to dust those gifts again. lol!
now I'm reminiscing— the front of the wedding invitation, that I made myself with a photo from a secret garden in iceland and an ee cummings poem sits it a frame facing me as I type this constantlly reminding me— “and the reason that I laugh and breathe is—- oh— love”
oh yeah – and Farland was the photographer, with my sister and everyone else working backup cameras, as if everyone doesn't have at least 7 good digital photographers at every family gathering these days. :-)
weddings can be WONDERFUL!!! and inexpensive. i like to remind soon to be weddeds of that fact– they can be quite magical without any large expense involved.

Chandini's parents have a farm outside of Atlanta somewhere and Adrian and Chandini are planning to have a little festival with their own little tent city, this from my offspring who has never ever gone camping or wanted to go camping or had any desire to sleep outside away from his lovely computers. Falling in love does strange things to you.
I am very excited for you and them. they look so neat. so sweet.
Oh this was great to drive out of the mountains for! I use to go to lots of weddings because my father was a minister he loved doing weddings and would invite me to ones he thought were going to be interesting. Marriage he saw as such a trust in life and the future. I want to see photos!

yipes NO please! where in the world would I keep them? we have a small house. I'd only like to have as many trash bags as we might be able to use in a month or two, unless they were magic and appeared out of thin air as I need them– that'd be ok. :-)
