What is currently bringing meaning to your life?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for May 17, 2008:

P5170005
This morning we went to the farmer's market and got greens and juicy ripe strawberries and plants and a jar of shea butter that smells like heaven. One of the greens is called tat soi and I've never had it before. It looks sort of like baby spinach with more character and it has this lovely buttery-peppery taste.
I ordered new glasses which won't be ready until Tuesday because mine are completely decomposing and these are the "spare" pair which became the only pair after Rosemary, Krissy's niece, dismembered my other pair that I used to wear all the time. We go to this funky little place that's super cheap because they buy closeout stuff in bulk and there was a motorcycle parked in the middle of their space today. Someone called wanting to know if they could make an appointment for an eye exam and the woman working there said "No, we never really know when one of the doctors will come in, they just show up."
When we got home Krissy potted the plants - basil and lettuce, juliet tomatoes, pennyroyal - and repotted some others while I did laundry and hung it out to dry in this beautiful sunny weather.
I drank approximately 100 glasses of iced berry zinger tea (ok, maybe not that many) and we went to EarthFare to get rice milk and tomatoes and I got some blueberries and more pita bread and we cooked out this afternoon. Lyra stole a piece of bread off the grill somehow without burning herself and Krissy yelled and chased her around the yard.
Right now Krissy is sitting out on the porch and I'm drinking another glass of this yummy tea.
All of these things, all of the little moments, sights sounds smells the touch of things the taste of wonderful food, the sunlight on my skin hanging out the laundry, the dirt on Krissy's pants her dreads flyiing behind her while she chases Lyra swearing like a hippie sailor, the click of my keyboard, my hand on sweet fur soft ears wagging tails purring cats all of it. Nothing is meaningless. Not one second.

Rapunzel, obiously you know how to live in the moment, I dig how you save emissions buying local, sounds like home,  When I've let them out of their night time pen and fed them, we will be having our own duck eggs for breakfast - yolks like the rising sun, with home baked bread. Then some gardening before lunch, weeding the sprouts sweetcorn, tomatoes, squash, courgettes, cucumbers salsify, mooli, peas, and beans etc

Yes, I think we should have a block party, Peridot! We can all agree to cook out and hang out on our porches simultaneously!

Zephyr, I'm a little envious. At some point I'd like to have chickens (I never thought of ducks!) and goats, but for now living right in town saves us a lot of driving and I like being here. We have a very secluded little spot with woods next to us, a 20 minute walk to downtown.

And David, you're certainly welcome, thanks for stopping by.

I just want to say, that was the last of 30 days of answering every QaR so now I get to talk about whatever wanders through my mind again. Whew! It's interesting how much I resist structure…and how much I like to play with that.

Your writing takes me to a place where I can smell, taste, touch and feel what you're describing.  Nectar for a weary soul.  We're growing lots of “greens” this year.  I've been craving them like crazy.  Your new found “green” sounds intriguing.  So far, I've planted spinach, chard and beets (which we'll thin and use as greens).  We only have a small space, and my husband would mourn the loss of new potatoes if I used too much of it for other things.  We're planting fresh herbs, two types of beans, lettuce, carrots and tomatoes too.  Ahhhhh!  Isn't summer grand?  Thanks for your stream of lovely consciousness.

Oh that porch look so cozy I just want to curl right up with a good book. Our farmers' markets haven't opened yet – we've probably still got a few weeks. You're so lucky!

Krissy says the porch is her favorite room in the house. It's nice to eat out there, too.
It's especially nice because we're set back from the road a bit and up on a hill and there's no walkway to the “front” porch, so it's very secluded but we have a great birds' eye view.

“It's interesting how much I resist structure…and how much I like to play with that.”

one of my goals is to do a 1 hour meditation every day for 30 days – first thing in the morning – no matter how early that means I have to get up to do it before the rest of the day butts in.  :-)  and I have also the goal of walking the dogs immediately afterward, for at least half an hour, right in the neighborhood, without thinking about it.  on days that I have to leave for work at 6am, I've promised myself to walk the dogs immediately after work, but I still have to do the meditation before I leave for work.  every day for 30.  3 down, 27 to go.

I am finding that I need to play with structure too.  One of my goals today is to find out where / when all the local farmer's markets are happening this spring / summer and mark it on the calendar and then make a point of going to them instead of the grocery store.

I'm not sure I'm ready for planting and growing things – it keeps snowing at night.  :-)
