What was the last thing you smiled about?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for December 30, 2008:

Every morning this little ball of fluff and sweetness wakes up purring, pats me on the cheek (with claws velveted), and snuggles between my cheek and shoulder while I wake up.  We were just going to foster him since we have so many animals here already, until we met him and now we're in love. I smile every time I look at him. He is completely self-possessed,  and in a houseful of animals he gets along with everyone. He's entirely self-sufficient and independent and entirely affectionate and loving. He makes eye contact and purrs all the time, and looks like he's just about to speak and if he did it would be something really interesting. I woke up with him sitting next to my face staring at me and I had just been dreaming that he was telling me that his name was Max - well, specifically, Maximum Cat. So that's his name.

And then there's also Lyra. I love all our animals dearly, but some are especially smile-inspiring and Lyra is one of those. She's full grown now and her little baby face is the face she'll always have. She is the sweetest, most balanced and happy dog I've ever known. She's all about fun and play and being in love with us. She runs in big leaping circles around our yard and makes all the other dogs play with her. She's even charmed Willow, who is a bit of a snob, and they sleep curled up together. This morning they were curled up together in a very small chair and that made me smile too.

Thank you for the smiles! I wish the rest of my family weren’t allergic to animal dander so my kittens could be inside the house. They make me smile anyway- they curl up inside the window box and watch us walking back and forth- two little heads swiveling around in unison. :D And the one- Emerson, touches my face the same way Max does! If I’m petting her sister, Ebony, and Emmy’s not getting enough attention, she stands on her hind legs and reaches for my face with both paws, no claws!

Katie, you might try this: spray a brush with tea (not herbal tea, english type tea) and brush the kitties. The tannic acid neutralizes the allergens in their dander for several hours. I’m actually a little allergic to Max - we have other cats but he has a different kind of coat, almost persian and as dense as a chinchilla, and he likes to sleep near our faces. But I’m willing to blow my nose and cough and I think my body is adapting. It’s much better than last week anyway.
My son had a friend who was allergic to cats and I would spray our house with dilute tea before he came over and it was okay for him then.

The pictures of these lovely creatures brought a smile to my mouth. They are beautiful and so is this blog a testament to how family means so many things four legged wonders and two legged ones and for me at times the spiders as well.
I didn’t want to get a cat,or any animal for that matter. I said no so many times I think the Bugman would ask just for a laugh. But one day he came home and said that a friend at works cat had some kittens and they were interviewing perspective owners ( wow people do that? ) and that he thought the time had come and so on and so on and so on,until finally I said “what the hey, let’s do it.”

Jefferson Cleo ( names picked by the children ;-) has become part of this family,a purring fuzz ball that has literally destroyed the fake leather chair we have and left the real leather furniture alone, which leads me to believe that he is off in a quacky funny way.

The weirdest and most lovely part of the whole experience is that I kept my distance at first and he won me over. Every night when I take my shower he comes in and sits on the bathtub and watches, it’s this wonderful ritual that I have gotten used to. He also watches me cook and eats almost anything.

He’s a real trooper too cuz Mimi likes to hug hard and he still chases after her and sleeps next to her and Moe at night.

I have yet to bond with the bird though ;-)

This cat made me smile too - none of ours are quite so open-minded.
